Title
APPROVAL OF A JOINT PROJECT AGREEMENT TO IMPROVE STORM WATER MANAGEMENT AND THE HUDSON BAYOU AT SARASOTA HIGH SCHOOL

Description
As part of the renovations of the Sarasota High School campus the Board has a desire to improve the waterways and storm water management on the campus, particularly those associated with the Hudson Bayou estuary.  Sarasota County Government has received a Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) Cooperative Funding Grant in the amount of $300,000.00 that requires a matching amount of $300,000.00 to create storm water improvements.  This JPA (Joint Project Agreement) establishes the opportunity for the School Board and Sarasota County to cooperate in the design, permitting and construction of storm water improvements on Hudson Bayou where it currently flows through Sarasota High School property to both improve the look and feel of Sarasota High School and to reduce the amount of sediments entering Sarasota Bay.  This JPA also establishes that the County and the School Board will share the grant "match" at $150,000.00 each.  Project oversight will be provided by Sarasota County staff.  Funds for the School Board's half of the match are set aside in the current project budget.

Recommendation
That the Board approve the Joint Project Agreement (JPA) between the Sarasota County Government and the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, to match funds and execute a grant from SWFWMD to improve storm water management and the Hudson Bayou on the campus of Saraosta High School as presented.
